Working on the Video

Although we mostly worked well as a team, we faced many challenges during the process. For instance, we had poor time management : we visited SPCA on mid-autumn festival. Consequently, the services provided closed early resulting in the need to visit on another day.  Furthermore, our phone interview with a professional was poorly organised in order to meet the deadline. As a result, the quality of the rushed interview was inadequate.

We also found difficulty organising an interview with SPCA. Due to poor commitment to communicate with the organisation, we realised the day before that they did not receive a message about the interview that we wanted to arrange, thus had to have a phone interview instead. The information we were able to attain during the phone interview also has many flaws. Despite providing us with a lot of information supported with evidence and examples, the statements given were very broad, general and imprecise. The phone interview was inflexible which limited the answers we got out of it that ultimately affected our outcome. However, through this incident, we are now more experienced on how to contact organisations properly which allowed us to quickly plan an interview with a professional in an SPCA centre.

We also held interviews in a dog park, speaking to locals and dog owners and it went relatively successful. This is because we were able to understand the issue from different perspectives of people who have different cultural backgrounds. For example, we were able to interview citizens who previously lived in Australia. Their opinions contrasted greatly with the answers given by Hong Kong residents. Dog owners that they consider incompetent are regarded as socially acceptable by citizens of Hong Kong. This reflects on the difference of culture and how each nation prioritises each aspect, in this case, pets, differently.

However, one of the limitations of the interviews is that the opinions we gathered do not represent all dog owners in Hong Kong as many do not go to dog parks and those do tend to be willing to provide adequate care for their dogs. The day we went to the park was also inconvenient for many dog owners as it was the day after the typhoon and some areas of the dog park were damaged and inaccessible. We considered interviewing people who are contemplating to buy pets in pet shops but felt that it is an invasion of privacy and hard to manage.
